You have a strong incentive to ignore some of the traditional tile placement rules in favor of giant metropolises of highly productive districts. They get extra bonus for having districts adjacent to each other. Those land tiles become a bit less important than they might be for other more land-focused civs. Look for city states like Nan Modal and Auckland with big bonuses towards coastal civs. If you find yourself on a map like this, grab God of the Sea as an early pantheon. With a Harbor, some fisheries from Liang, maybe the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, and things like this, coastal civs can become absolute monsters. As you progress through the game, the ocean becomes exceedingly generous as a source of food and gold. One thing to keep in mind is coastal resources. You're not screwed at all! You do have to balance food tiles with your production of various resources (science at campuses, faith at holy sites, military production at encampments, etc).
